Macskakő Gyermekmúzeum
The location
A community space in the Eggenberg House, based on the collections of the Sopron Museum, is designed for children and play-loving adults. Interactive and fun to explore, the children's museum presents everyday life in the past through objects from the past and present. The interior courtyard of the listed building houses the museum's educational activity area and the Children's Museum's interactive exhibition space is located at the street front of the house.
In 2018, the Cobbles Children's Museum was named Exhibition of the Year for its permanent exhibition. The institution won the prestigious award for its playful presentation of the museum's collection, taking into account the specificities of childhood.
We have created a niche community space for the youngest children, where they can explore the world of bygone eras in their own way, through play.

While in preschool they are still in intense contact with the material world - constantly observing, touching and interpreting the objects around them - this contact becomes poorer in the school years, and verbal and especially written forms of communication become much more important. This impoverishes their lives, without denying the importance of these forms. Children are unable to interpret the objects of the past and to relate them to the objects of today. Even as adults, they are still 'wandering' around exhibitions. To avoid this, they need to know the story of the objects. And it is the museum's job to tell them. A
