The Artistic Home of the Storno Family

The Storno House on the Main Square is one of the rarest artistic home in Europe of the generations of Italian and German originated Storno family, who improved, decorated and reconstructed it extraordinarily from the middle of the 19th century. The interior of the Storno collection is located on the second floor of the Baroque corner house. It presents the collection of Ferenc Storno Sr. (1821–1907) and his family. Storno came from Bavaria, settled in Sopron and became an artist-restorer from a chimney sweep master. He also participated in the work of 19th-century monument protection, he designed and restored buildings in the spirit of historicism. From the 1870s, his sons were also involved in his work. In addition to his assignments, Storno collected antiques and furnished the second floor of his house on Main Square with antique pieces of furniture, household appliances, and works of art. Our exhibition presents the collection of this artist family in the rooms that the family used as an apartment between 1875 and 1976.
